EPISODE 20: IIFA Day Two - King Khan Arrives and IIFA Rocks the Coliseum
Friday kicks off with a morning press conference for the Broadway-like venture: Kingdom of Dreams at the sponsored venue of The Fairmont Royal York, Canadian Room.
Indian dance choreographer Shiamak Davar invited SRK up to say a few words about Kingdom of Dreams. Along with Davar, Khan is the global brand ambassador for India's first live entertainment and leisure destination.
"Kingdom of Dreams is reflective of India, its rich culture and seamless heritage and I am proud to promote my country, my India, through this platform. Kingdom of Dreams is a world class experience and I am ecstatic to be a part of an Indian brand that has set the stage for entertainment at its very best."
Two new shows, Jhumroo and Here I Am-Shiamak were also announced at the press conference. The first, a musical comedy, will be launched in October 2011 at Kingdom of Dreams while the second Vegas-inspired dance and music show will take place in the Nautanki Mahal state of the art auditorium.
The afternoon presser also showcased Inside, the National Geographic Channel's documentary series which will feature a special show on Kingdom of Dreams on August 7th. The show hopes to unveil how India is using the best of modern technology and wizardry in combination with traditional Indian performing arts and cinematography to enrich the country's cultural heritage and set new heights for the future of Indian entertainment.
Later that afternoon the Metro Convention Centre for the IIFA's Global Business Forum took place.
Over 300 business leaders from India and Ontario met all day to explore investment opportunities during IIFA's Global Business Forum. Amongst the topics discussed was talks to bring more Bollywood production work here to Toronto in order to create more job opportunities and fuel Ontario and India's growing $1.6 billion annual trade relationship.
Evening: IIFA Rocks at the Ricoh Coliseum. The Fashion event and Technical awards show. The show opened up to Jermaine Jackson and Sonu Nigam performing a unique collaboration of a heartfelt rendition of the late Michael Jackson's songs.
Hosts Karan Johar and Anushka Sharma entertained the audience as the big winners of the night: Dabangg, Robot, My Name is Khan, and Band Baaja Baaraat accepted their nods. Later, Sonu Nigam returned to the stage to give a powerful solo encore, which best summed up in the great words of Karan Johar proved why he is still "truly one of the most gifted performers of our time." Other roof-raising musical performances included Canadian and UK sensation RDB (Rhythm, Dhol, Bass) and the famed brothers Salimand Sulaiman, who gained international spotlight when they partnered with Lady Gaga to make a Bollywood remix of Born This Way.
When it came to fashion, the night did not disappoint. Canada's The Bay along with renowned Indian designers Rajesh Pratap Singh, Vikram Phadnis, andSabyaschi showcased their exquisite haute couture creations-from the regal majestic era to the refined modern era-while Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy performed live to the models' choreographed strut down the runway. Runway showstoppers included Brett Lee, Rahul Khanna, Zayed Khan, Neha Dhupia, Sonakshi Sinha, and Bipasha Basu. The King of Bollywood was also in the audience to show his support along with other members of the film fraternity: Ameesha Patel, Anil Kapoor,Arbaaz Khan, Genelia D'Souza,Madhavan, Malaika Khan, Rakesh Roshan, and Vivek Oberoi to name a few.
